On Saturday August 6, 2016 at approximately 8:00 pm, Canmore RCMP were called to assist Kananaskis Public Safety for an overdue person near Canmore.
It was reported to the RCMP that a man had been planning a “base jump” in the vicinity of Ha Ling Peak or the East End of Rundle Mountain earlier Saturday afternoon. When the man did not return home, and attempts to contact him were unsuccessful, authorities were notified.
Search efforts began on Saturday, and continued until today with a number of cooperating agencies including Kananaskis Public Safety, Canmore Fire and Rescue, Alberta Parks, Parks Canada, and Cochrane and Calgary Search and Rescue.
At approximately 1:00 pm Monday further investigation led to another area being searched. The subject of the search was located near Miners Peak on Mount Lawrence Grassi near Canmore. The subject, a 34 year old male from Calgary, was located deceased.
The name of the deceased is not being released by the RCMP.
