On Saturday August 6, 2016 at approximately 8:00 pm, Canmore RCMP were called to assist Kananaskis Public Safety for an overdue person near Canmore.
It was reported to the RCMP that a man had been planning a “base jump” in the vicinity of Ha Ling Peak or the East End of Rundle Mountain earlier Saturday afternoon. When the man did not return home, and attempts to contact him were unsuccessful, authorities were notified.
Search efforts began on Saturday, and continue today with a number of cooperating agencies.
The RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in that anyone who witnessed a parachute in the area, spoke with any base jumper on Ha Ling or East End of Rundle, or picked up anyone hitchhiking on Highway 742 near Grassi Lakes day use area on Saturday afternoon between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm immediately contact the Canmore RCMP at 403-678-5516.
