EDMONTON, AB (October 2, 2015): Wildrose Shadow Jobs, Skills and Training Minister Grant Hunter will be kicking off an exploratory minimum wage tour on Monday, Oct. 5.
The tour will be an opportunity to talk to business owners and employees face to face about their concerns surrounding the NDP government’s move to a 50 per cent increase in minimum wage within the province.
“I am hearing from Albertans that this change is too drastic for our current economic situation,” Hunter said. “This tour will be an opportunity for me to hear from everyday Albertans about the direction our province should take in setting a minimum wage.”
Wildrose has urged the NDP to reconsider the dramatic leap in minimum wage, citing the possible damage to businesses and the risk of increasing unemployment to Alberta’s most vulnerable.
Hunter will be making stops in Okotoks, Calgary, Airdrie, Innisfail, Red Deer and Lacombe on the first leg of his tour.
