Community grant contest could see the Town of High River awarded between $50,000 and $100,000 for new equipment
High River (AB) – A grant application to create a community fitness centre in the field house has been submitted to the Aviva Community Fund for a chance to be awarded $50,000 to $100,000. The grant could be used to install fitness equipment like treadmills, weights, and spin bikes in the upper level of the field house.
The Town of High River and Western Financial Group have partnered to submit the application and need residents to go online and vote for the idea. As an Aviva-contracted broker, support from Western Financial Group means that High River’s submission has additional chances to win funding.
“Taking care of our residents’ health and well-being is more important than ever,” said Cynthia Farrow, Community Program Supervisor for the Town. “We see this as an opportunity to provide more fitness options to the community to increase happiness and relieve stress.”
“Western Financial Group is committed to the Town of High River and supporting initiatives that will benefit residents and help to move the Town forward after the flood,” said Jeff Burke, President and CEO of Western Financial Group. “New fitness equipment would be a great addition to the recreation activities available in High River.”
Voting runs from November 10 to 24 and can be done online at www.avivacommunityfund.org. Once on the site, search for “Community Fitness Centre for the Town of High River” or enter the code “ACF21923.” In order to vote you need to login using Facebook or create an account on the site. Each person can cast multiple votes and residents are encouraged to log on and vote each day during the voting period.
If the application makes it into the semi-finals there will be a second round of voting that starts Monday, December 1. All finalists will then be judged by a panel to determine the winners by Tuesday, January 27, 2015.
