EDMONTON, MARCH 12th 2016: Veterans Emergency Transition Services Canada (VETS Canada) is holding the first ‘Boots on the Ground’ walk in Edmonton in search of Veterans living homeless. VETS Canada is a national, volunteer-led service provider of Veterans Affairs Canada that has assisted hundreds of homeless and in-crisis Veterans since 2010. The non-profit organization is built on the belief that those who served our country and protected our homes should never be without one.

Employment and Social Development Canada recently estimated 2,250 Veterans use 60 of Canada’s shelters on a regular basis. “Although we believe this figure is actually much larger, we are pleased that there is a now a preliminary picture of homelessness amongst Canadian Veterans available to the public,” says Debbie Lowther, VETS Canada Co-Founder / Chair. “Now is the time to take action and get these Veterans off the streets and into homes. VETS Canada’s Edmonton Boots on the Ground Walk is a means to locate our homeless heroes and provide this help.”

For those who know of a Veteran in need or are interested in becoming a part of our work to end homelessness for Veterans, please visit our website for next steps: www.vetscanada.org.
