Update: RCMP Recover Historical Coal Miner’s Lamp

Banff, Alberta – The RCMP have recovered a coal miner’s lamp taken from a historical site within Banff National Park. The lamp, which was removed from the Lower Bankhead site on July 28, 2018, was on loan to Parks Canada and in use as a display item. Extensive media coverage of this event contributed to its recovery. The person who removed the lamp from the site turned it over to the RCMP in Edmonton, who in turn delivered it to the Banff RCMP. The lamp has been returned to the custody of Parks Canada. As the incident remains under investigation, further details about the removal of the lamp are not being provided.
