Airdrie, AB – Airdrie RCMP have today charged two men in connection with the shooting of a man near a local fitness centre on Mackenzie Way in Airdrie on September 27, 2015. The 39 year old victim received 3 gunshot wounds: one to the left wrist, one to his right thigh and one to his back and is expected to recover fully.
This afternoon, Michael Sharman, 35 years of age, of Calgary was arrested by the RCMP during a traffic stop this afternoon near the intersection of Crowfoot Crescent and Crowfoot Road, in northeast Calgary, with assistance from the Calgary Police Service. He has been charged with the following offences:
- Aggravated Assault, Pointing a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Weapon contrary to Prohibition Order, Assault, and Uttering Threats.
Michael Sharman’s first appearance date and location will be released when known.
The RCMP is also actively seeking, and has obtained a warrant for, the arrest of Mathew Van Schiak, 21 years of age, of no fixed address. He has been charged with:
- Aggravated Assault, Discharging a Firearm with Intent, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon.
Van Schiak is described as (see photo attached):
– male, Caucasian, 6″1″, 172 lbs, brown hair, and blue eyes.
Mathew Van Schiak may be operating a gold 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, with Alberta plate BRX 3441 and driving east from Alberta. He is considered to be armed and dangerous. Do not approach the suspect, maintain your safety at all times, and call 911 or your local police.
