Unidirectional Flushing Program to Begin June 1st

HIGH RIVER, AB: Town of High River Operations and Utilities will be performing a unidirectional flushing program from June 1 to September 31, 2015 in the northwest area of town.

Unidirectional flushing (UDF) is a method of dislodging and removing mineral deposits and sediment that accumulates in the water mains. This is completed with a series of flushing sequences with the water being discharged from fire hydrants.

In most cases, customers will not notice any changes to their water delivery during the UDF process. In some cases however, homes may experience a temporary slight drop in water pressure and/or discoloured water, or brief water cut off.

There is a possibility that small particles of sediment may become dislodged during this process causing temporary discolouration of water. The discoloured water does not pose a health hazard; however, iron (red water) and manganese (black water) may be stirred up within the water system during the flushing procedures.

Any residents who may be affected are asked to run all cold water faucets inside the home for 15 minutes, or until the water runs clear.

If the water continues to be discoloured, please contact Town Operations at 403-652-4657.

NOTE: Please do not wash laundry while water is discoloured. Washing clothes especially with chlorine bleach when water is discoloured will stain laundry.
