Turner Valley Supports Home-Based Small Business

Minor Home Occupation Permit Fee Dropped

Turner Valley Town Council has dropped the Minor Home Occupation application fee of $175 as part of its strategy to encourage local small business development. Many entrepreneurs start their business with a desk, phone and computer located in a spare room or at the kitchen table of their homes. Recognizing these businesses bring significant value to the community, Council wanted to reduce start-up costs for owners. While a permit will still be required, there will be no fee associated with the application. Home-based businesses benefit the community more than just economically; home-business owners typically spend less time commuting and potentially have more flexibility to become involved in volunteer activities, use local services and increase security in neighbourhoods.

We appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit of these businesses and salute their efforts during Small Business Week and throughout the year.
