Turner Valley School News – Thankful

Administrator’s Message

Is September over already? It has been an amazing month here at Turner Valley School. I’m a little scared if the rest of the year goes this fast, there’s still so much to do. I am however very excited at how the students and staff have hit the ground running. Students are adjusting to their new grades and classrooms, and I see them highly engaged in their learning.

As I look back at September I continue to be deeply thankful with the parent support with care for the students and the school. From the pancake breakfast, to the ‘meet the teacher’ night, from help with setting up for the Terry Fox run, the lunch program set up, and the many volunteers coming into the building on a daily basis. These, among many other things, make this school such an exciting place. October seems to be shaping up to be another busy month. The grade 1 assembly is Oct 24th at 1pm. All are welcome. We look forward to continuing the ‘wall of fame’ with bricks given to students who show character, commitment and competence. We are also adding a 4th ‘C’ for Creativity, as many students showcase their abilities and talents in this way as well. The grade 6’s have started with patrols both before and after school. We know this is very helpful, especially for the little ones. Archery club started for our grades 4-6. Flag-football with the 5’s and 6’s is wrapping up. Our fall dance is Oct 24th 7-9, so bring the whole family.

School council has held their first meeting last month and the next meeting is Oct 22nd @6:30. All parents are welcome, and we encourage as many parents as possible to get involved with school council. Many great decisions and discussions occur during this time.

As we move forward in a new school year we continue to focus on increasing student voice in their learning, and the communication between home and school to keep parents informed regarding their child’s learning. As such, we will be continuing with our ‘student led conferences’ on November 5th and 6th, so mark your calendar, these are a great way for students to share their learning. Also, included in this month’s newsletter is our school-parent communication commitment.

With Thanksgiving soon approaching, please take the time to reflect on the important things in life. I’m sure we can all think of many things to be grateful for. And from all the staff here, thanks for all your support in making Turner Valley School a great place to be.

Have A Great Thanksgiving!
