On display until November 5, 2014
The exhibition Black Gold features the art work of contemporary artists whose creative expressions have been stimulated by the development of the petroleum industry in Alberta. Inspired by the centenary of the Turner Valley discoveries, this exhibition encourages the viewer to consider the history and importance of, and challenges presented by, the oil industry.
Tracing the development of the oil and gas industry in Turner Valley in 1913/1914 through to the ongoing development of the Athabasca Oil Sands, the art works and materials which accompany this exhibition reflect on the impacts the oil industry has had on the development of the province and the lives of Albertans.
