While many of us miss the summer sunshine, most of our students are excited about winter and the snow that comes with it. The structure of the school day stays the same, but there are a few things that we do at this time of year. When the weather turns cold, we run intra-murals in the gym during lunch recess. Our Grade 6 leadership teams take turns organizing games and activities in the gym 3 days a week. Mondays are for Grades 1 & 2, Tuesdays are for Grades 3 & 4, and Wednesdays are for 5 & 6’s. Students have the option to go to intra-murals or to go outside.
There is choir club once a week that Mrs. Schuster puts on. Leading up to Carnaval, Mrs. Baxter runs a French club. Spring theatre practices will occasionally be held during lunch recess. For the last month Mrs. Mowatt, our parent council chair, has been running a writing club in the learning commons. Sometimes there are other activities that students may choose to attend at recess. Like on PJ day the grade 6’s put on a dance party in the gym. Or in the spring Mr. Ellis and I will have a ping pong tournament during lunch recess. As for winter weather, please refer to the Nov 24th email Mrs. Turbach sent out to all parents regarding winter protocol.
The big thing to re-emphasize is the fact that students go outside every morning recess and many lunch recesses so they need to be prepared with all the appropriate gear.
