The First Poppy Ceremony took place this afternoon at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #78 in Turner Valley. The ceremonial pinning of the Poppies on local dignitaries kicks off the local Poppy Fund Campaign every year. It is first done in Ottawa on the Governor General, then the Lieutenant Governors of each Province and then each Branch presents a Poppy to their local dignitaries. The Legion’s Poppy Campaign always kicks off the last Friday of October when the Poppy blossoms on the lapels and collars of millions of Canadians.
Following the opening speech by Legion President, Ray MacGregor Poppies were pinned on local dignitaries by Vice-President Linda Macaulay.
