Turner Valley Council Appoints New CAO

Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Todd Sharpe, its new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective May 14, 2018. Mr. Sharpe has extensive municipal management experience as the Parks and Recreation Manager with the City of Medicine Hat. His responsibilities included maintaining a budget of over $24 million dollars. He is very experienced in leading the operations of a large department encompassing facilities and staff.

The selection process was led by an ad hoc committee comprised of the Mayor, three Councillors and the Interim CAO. To ensure full transparency, a third-party professional human resource firm specializing in municipal senior management recruitment was contracted to oversee the hiring process. With over 60 applications, it was narrowed down to 15 candidates, who best met the criteria as outlined by Council. Short-listed candidate resumes were presented to all of Council, who reduced these to four finalists to be interviewed. Over two days, Council interviewed the finalists, with a unanimous conclusion that Mr. Sharpe is the best qualified to have an immediate impact to lead staff as well, direct and manage our Town.

At this time, Council wishes to extend its sincere thanks to Heather Thomson for taking on the responsibility as our Interim CAO. She very capably managed the day-to-day business of the municipality and will continue to be a strong support for the incoming CAO. We appreciate Ms. Thomson’s commitment to Council and our residents through the transition.

Council and staff are looking forward to working with Mr. Sharpe as we work together to ensure our Town continues to be the place we are proud to call “HOME”. ”
