The Town of Okotoks is pleased to announce that we have conditionally secured a 40 acre parcel of land to accommodate future public facilities that may include education, recreation and/or cultural uses to serve the growth needs of this community for many years to come.
The land is located immediately adjacent to the north boundary of the Town, on the west side of 32nd Street across from Holy Trinity School. The land is currently owned by the Wedderburn family, who have farmed in Okotoks for over seven decades.
Mayor Robertson stated “Okotoks Council is pleased with the purchase of the land as it will be developed as public space for the enjoyment of generations to come. The vision is to have an area where education facilities are in close proximity to a variety of recreation and cultural amenities. This represents a major investment in the future of Okotoks and reflects prudent long range planning for a growing community. “
A portion of this land has been earmarked to meet the growing need for education facilities and is well suited for a new high school. The Town will work closely with the local school divisions to determine their future needs and priorities. This land is readily serviceable and could be developed within the next 1-2 years.
The offer is conditional upon consent by the MD of Foothills who have been notified of our intent to purchase this land for public use.
Mayor Robertson added “We want to thank the Wedderburn family for their ongoing support of this community as they have been active local community builders and avid sports fans. They are thrilled that the land will be used for a community campus where current and future generations will enjoy this public space.”
