Town Invites Residents to Help Select Two New Murals

High River, AB: The Town of High River is inviting residents to vote for their preferred choice of two new murals that will be located in downtown High River. The new murals will be a reminder of the community’s strength and unity and are expected to be completed by June 2016.

“Public input has been key throughout this project and we are excited to finally be able to unveil the potential designs and give residents a chance to vote for their favourites,” said Sarah Mitchell, parks and culture coordinator with the Town.

Voting will be open until October 2, 2015 and can be done online at under the “Public Forums” menu, or in-person at the Town Office, Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex and library.

All mural submissions were compiled by the Mural Ad Hoc Committee and ranked using a rigorous marking scheme to arrive at the final six designs. Categories included the artist’s past mural experience, overall impression, and how closely submissions aligned to preferred elements identified by the public through earlier feedback.

Once voting closes the Mural Ad Hoc Committee will review all feedback received and present their recommendations to council.

“The committee would like to thank all artists for their submissions,” said Mitchell on behalf of the Mural Ad Hoc Committee. “The committee received an incredible variety of submissions from many talented artists from all over Canada.”

This project is made possible through a grant from The Calgary Foundation.
