Town Assumes Interim Snow Removal Responsibilities for Downtown Sidewalks

High River, AB: The Town of High River has assumed temporary responsibility for ensuring that all sidewalks in the downtown area will remain clear of snow for the 2015 season. DowntownSnowRemoval2014-2015Council directed administration to begin clearing downtown sidewalks after every snowfall in order to maintain access to businesses in this area. This includes Macleod Trail from 1 Ave. SE to 6 Avenue, 1 Street SW from 1 Ave SE – 7 Ave SW and along both sides of 3, 4 and 5 avenues. The map provides a detail of the areas that will be managed by Town crews.

“The sidewalks have been widened substantially in the new downtown design and council is still working on the policy to address such things as maintenance and use of these public areas for business promotion,” said Mayor Craig Snodgrass.

The Operations Services Division will include downtown sidewalk cleaning into their regular snow removal schedule starting immediately. Although the Town will also be salting and sanding the sidewalks, business owners are welcome to supplement this if they wish.
