CALGARY, AB – Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith officially kicked off the Calgary-Foothills by-election today by introducing Wildrose candidate Kathy Macdonald and delivering a clear call to action for constituents: It’s time to send the PCs a message.
Macdonald will square off against Premier Jim Prentice who is running for the governing Progressive Conservatives. Smith said Prentice will have to answer for the PC record of broken promises, mismanagement and entitlements when he faces voters for the first time.
“Jim Prentice hasn’t had to face the Alberta public yet and if there’s one thing he’s going to find out, it’s that they want to send the PCs a message,” Smith said. “The PC record now belongs to him and it’s not a record to be proud of. The people of Calgary-Foothills have a unique opportunity to send a message by electing a Wildrose MLA and voting for a party and a candidate that actually puts them first.”
Macdonald recently retired after serving 25 years in the Calgary Police Service where she specialized in cybercrime prevention. She is internationally recognized for her work on cybercrime legislation, identity theft protection and anti-bullying. In 2009, she was invested with the Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces by the Governor General.
“Kathy is someone who has devoted her life to serving others and we are privileged to have her as part of our team,” Smith said. “She brings to this race impeccable credentials, and impressive resume and a deep connection to the city and community she has served for her entire career.”
Macdonald said the people of Calgary-Foothills are ready to send the PCs a message.
“The people I’ve talked to are getting excited for this by-election and are looking forward to having new representation,” Macdonald said. “My campaign is going to work to earn every single vote we can and give constituents a real, viable and positive alternative to more mismanagement and entitlement from the PCs.”
