Taber, AB – Man rescued from the Scope Reservoir

Taber, AB -On July 6, 2016 at about 10:50 a.m., the RCMP was called to Scope Reservoir, just south of Hays, AB to assist an individual yelling for help in the water.  The individual was too far from shore for the citizens to provide assistance.  The RCMP responded with a rescue boat, and were assisted by the Fire Departments of Vauxhall, Hays and the Town of Taber.  The individual in the water was taken on board the boat and brought to the boat launch, where EMS provided him with medical treatment.  As a precaution, the person was taken by HALO to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for further assessment and care.
The individual is a male of approximately 65 years old.  He was fishing by himself.  It is unknown at this time what caused him to be in the water.  The individual had been in the water for a couple hours, and had been wearing his personal flotation device (PFD).   This incident is yet further evidence of the life-saving effectiveness of wearing a PFD when doing any water activities.
