Sundre – Alberta RCMP continue to investigate death of child


Calgary, Alberta – Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit South continue to investigate the death of a nine-year-old girl found deceased in a vehicle on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The Medical Examiner’s Office has positively confirmed the identity of the victim as Amber Lucius. Amber’s family have consented to release of her name and ask that the media respect their privacy at this time.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is in the process of determining the cause and manner of death in this investigation. It is expected that they will conclude the autopsy investigation later today.

Laura Coward, age 47, recently of Millet, was taken into to custody near Sundre on Sept. 2, and has been criminally charged with one count of Break Enter and Commit Theft Section 348(1)(b) as well as one count of Abduction in Contravention of Custody Order Section 282(1)(a). Coward has been identified as the deceased child’s biological mother.

Coward is schedule to appear in court on Monday, Sept. 8 at the Didsbury Court House via CCTV in relation to these charges.
