Strathmore, AB – On December 14, 2015 at 2:40 p.m., Strathmore RCMP were requested by the Calgary Police Service to assist in stopping a stolen vehicle leaving the Calgary city limits which had just collided with an Calgary Police Service vehicle. Strathmore RCMP investigators attempted to stop the stolen car; however, the driver sped up and away from police. Gleichen RCMP members then deployed a spike belt in an effort to slow the fleeing vehicle. However, the driver attempted to avoid the spike belt and lost control on the roadway, rolling over in the ditch of Highway #1, east of Range Road 231 where it came to rest.
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was ejected during the rollover and subsequently arrested by the RCMP. The driver had sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
This event is under investigation by both the RCMP and the Calgary Police Service and charges are pending against the driver.
