Premier Jim Prentice issued the following statement as Albertans mark the United Nations International Day of Commemoration for Victims of the Holocaust:
“The Holocaust stands as the largest example of genocide in modern times. Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime murdered six million European Jews – men, women and children. The Holocaust claimed another five million lives of people the Nazis considered enemies due to their nationality, or political, social or religious beliefs.
“As Albertans, we should always be mindful that we enjoy the rights, freedoms and humanity that were denied the victims of the Holocaust. We must never forget.”
