Cochrane RCMP Seek Suspects in Counterfeit Money Passing
On April 7th 2016 Cochrane RCMP received multiple complaints from local businesses in Cochrane suspecting three people using Counterfeit currency.   An immediate response by Police resulted in the vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses be located and stopped in the parking lot of Cochrane Shoppers Drug mart.   Three individuals were arrested and a subsequent search revealed additional counterfeit currency including a Canadian $100 bill, 3 counterfeit American 20$ bills and several counterfeit Canadian $50 dollar bills.  A small amount of what Police believe to be methamphetamine was also seized.  The following individuals are facing multiple offences for possession and uttering counterfeit currency, and possession of methamphetamine.

The counterfeit bills are of poor quality.  The suspects indicated that Cochrane businesses were specifically targeted and believed the counterfeit currency would be more easily accepted in Cochrane versus businesses in the city of Calgary.  Police encourage businesses  to educate their employees on prevention of this type of crime.  The bank of Canada offers information on prevention at http://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknotes/counterfeit-prevention/.

RCMP Banff Investigate Theft, Suspect Sought

On April 3rd 2016, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Banff RCMP received a complaint of a theft of camping equipment from Atmosphere located in the 100 Block of Banff Avenue in Banff. It’s alleged the theft occurred a day earlier on April 2nd 2016 at approximately 1:45 p.m. The total dollar amount of items taken is over $330.

Police obtained Surveillance footage and photos of the suspect from the store.

  • Male;
  • Approximately 35-45 years old;
  • Approximately 167 cm tall (5’5”);
  • Heavy build;
  • Short brown hair;
  • Wearing a Grey sweater;
  • Wearing dark coloured pants.
