On Sunday, January 31st the Racetrack hosted our 1st Soup Sisters event in the Hall. We had 13 participants from Foothills Masters Swim Club in Calgary. Chantal Teasdale of Rusty Spur Catering was our guest chef for the day. Chantal prepared a delicious soup for us all to enjoy, thank you Chantal. We also wish to thank: Anne Mackay for doing all the grocery shopping; Betty Foran for coordinating the event; and Gail Maitland, representing Rowan House Emergency Shelter. A special round of applause goes out to Giselle Funk and Wendy Nash for washing all the dishes. Due to the amazing efforts of this volunteer group 80 liters of soup was donated to Rowan House for the women and children to enjoy.
Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers charge a $55 participation fee per person to cover the expenses of ingredients for the soups, the venue, equipment, supervision, and a Chef or professional facilitator. This ensures that the finest ingredients possible are used every time for the soups we provide to women, children and youth. Events are social evenings with lively conversation, chopping, laughter and warm kitchen camaraderie that culminate in a simple, sit-down supper of soup, salad, bread and wine for all participants. Each event produces approximately 150-250 servings of fresh soup that sustains your local shelter with nourishing and nurturing soup each month.
