Sievers' complete game shutout fuels big Dawgs win

Dawgs - Sievers - DSC_5940The Okotoks Dawgs (14-14) rode a complete game shutout, last night, and a defensive breakdown by their opponents to defeat the Edmonton Prospects (12-18) 8-0.

Chris Sievers (Northeastern Junior College) was simply dominant, as he didn’t allow a run all game while recording 11 strikeouts and just two hits against. Sievers picks up his second win of the year and didn’t face more than three batters in seven of nine innings. His 40 strikeouts on the year place him third in the WMBL.

Edmonton’s seven errors were one of their downfalls, as the Dawgs scored the majority of their runs because of them. Mario Sanchez (Colorado State – Pueblo) had the biggest hit of the night with a bases-clearing three-run double. He was 3-5 with two runs, three RBIs and two steals. Jordan Peterson (Chandler Gilbert) was 3-4 with three runs and an RBI.

With the win, the Dawgs stretch their lead over the Prospects to three games. They also gain a half game on Medicine Hat and Lethbridge who were off last night.

Tonight, Medicine Hat comes to town for a division battle. The game is at 7:05 P.M. and it is Sun Country 99.7 Western Night and Rotary Night.
