CALGARY, Nov. 21, 2014 – In remarks before a meeting of business and political leaders at the 3rd Annual Canadian Economic Club’s Energy Summit, Alberta elected Senator Doug Black says innovation is fundamental to the future success of the Canadian energy industry.
“We will not achieve our market access goals in Canada if we do not achieve significant environmental innovation in Canada,” said Senator Black. “In particular, we need to demonstrate that we are serious about becoming leading global innovators to enhance the sustainability of resource development projects.”
“Our First Nation partners are appropriately demanding environmental protection as the key priority for resource development,” said the Senator. “We can’t achieve addressing environmental and safety concerns without broad based innovation.”
In addition to delivering remarks, the Senator moderated a panel on energy, environment and innovation at the 3rd Annual Energy Summit hosted by the Economic Club of Canada. Panelists included Kristyn Annis (President of Canadians for Clean Prosperity), Dr. Brenda Kenny (President & CEO of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association) and Elyse Allan (President and CEO, General Electric Canada).
