Scoring points on both sides: ATB and Hockey Alberta Foundation partner for mutual success

Alberta’s Promise

When sponsors and non-profits are equally passionate about community initiatives for kids, great results are achievable. Just ask ATB Financial and Hockey Alberta, proud partners of Alberta’s Promise. Together, the wealth management division of ATB Financial, ATB Investor Services, and the Hockey Alberta Foundation are raising funds through the Every Kid Every Community initiative to support hockey programming for kids in communities across the province. Thanks to aligned interests and innovative thinking, the partnership is scoring big points on both sides.

Since the launch of the Every Kid Every Community (EKEC) program in 2011, the impact has been significant. Looking at the numbers, more than $220,000 has been distributed to groups focused on creating access to hockey across Alberta. More importantly, the funds have increased access to hockey in 36 communities and for more than 3,500 kids. Karen Dommett, marketing and events coordinator for Hockey Alberta Foundation, is adamant that none of this great work would be possible without the support of partner organizations like the Curtis Glencross Legacy Fund and the support of businesses like ATB.

At the core of a great community investment partnership is a strong alignment between business and community interests, and a sense that the partnership will bring mutual success. “ATB Investor Services is really invested in our communities”, says Dommett, “and their team is as committed to the success of our Every Kid Every Community initiative as we are.” It is that mutual ownership and passion for the partnership that is driving the EKEC Speaker Series.

Supported by ATB Investor Services as the presenting sponsor, the EKEC Speaker Series is the Foundation’s newest initiative to raise funds for community groups and kids’ programs that focus on hockey. The series was piloted in December 2014 in both Calgary and Grande Prairie to tremendous acclaim, raising a combined total of $30,000 for kids. Money aside, the partnership is also meeting the business needs of both ATB Investor Services and the Hockey Alberta Foundation. While the Foundation benefits from ATB’s connections with hockey superstars and community champions to secure speakers and drive ticket sales, ATB is able to leverage the fundraisers to boost its brand visibility, host clients and employees, and ultimately reach out and support the causes and communities that align with its values and community investment goals. As Dommett puts it, “The partnership is a dream!”

The success of the Speaker Series initiative has meant that more communities across Alberta will have the privilege of hosting high-profile hockey greats. Through their partnership with ATB Investor Services, the Hockey Alberta Foundation is welcoming six-time Stanley Cup Champion Bryan Trottier to Olds and Medicine Hat in January 2016.  The two events will give local businesses the opportunity to co-host with ATB and the Hockey Alberta Foundation, boost their brand recognition, and raise funds for kids’ hockey.
