By Gloria Wessner
The bullets zinged by my head as I propped my body back down in the safety of the trench. As I went down, out of the corner of my eye I spotted my best buddy, not twenty feet away, go limp with his head propped on top of his gun at the muddy edge of the trench. I dropped to the bottom of it crawling along through the wet and heavy mud, my gun cradled in my arms as I kept my eyes on my friend.
