Red Deer’s bid established them as a community ready to successfully host the largest multi-sport and cultural event for youth in the nation in 2019. When Red Deer’s Bid Committee submitted their bid document to the Canada Games Council office in Ottawa, they sent it in style – in a miniature chuckwagon.
2019 Games Board Chair Lyn Radford said, “The chuckwagon is a representation of when Central Alberta was originally settled. Central Alberta was built on the philosophy of helping your neighbor and that legacy of giving continues today, as demonstrated by the incredible generosity of our volunteer community.” Contained inside the chuckwagon was Red Deer’s bid document for the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
The chuckwagon will be on display at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Red Deer.
