RCMP – Train Derailment – Lake Louise, AB


A train derailed in downtown Lake Louise at 1:30 on Saturday morning. The derailment resulted in five train cars leaving the track, one of which ended up hanging over the Pipe Stone River.

The involved train cars were empty and no chemicals were spilled in the event. There have also been no reported injuries.

This incident occurred at a very low rater of speed as the train passed through a transfer station. Although the cause of the derailment is still under investigation, it is believed a mechanical issue with one of the cars lead to the event. There is currently no indication that Criminal activity played a role.

CP Rail, CP Police and Parks Canada have all been engaged.

Clean up (lasted) into the early evening. Local infrastructure and roadways have not been affected.
