Speeding Motorcyclist Intercepted

On Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 10:30 PM a member of the Leduc Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU) was monitoring traffic on the QEII at Airport Road, when the officer noted 2 sport motorcycles enter into the northbound lanes of the QEII.

As the motorcycles merged onto the highway, the officer watched the motorcycles accelerate rapidly, and then change lanes erratically multiple times and without signalling. Both motorcycles were observed riding very aggressively, driving across multiple lanes of traffic and traveling at alleged speeds of 155 – 175 km/hr. The QEII at this location has a posted speed limit of 110 km/hr.

The Leduc Integrated Traffic Unit officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycles – one failed to stop and the other motorcycle operator complied.

The motorcycle operator that was apprehended was a 29 year old male from the Edmonton area. He has been charged with Careless Driving under the Traffic Safety Act and is scheduled to appear in Leduc Provincial Court on July 15, 2015.

The investigation into the identity of the motorcycle operator that failed to stop continues, and any motorists that may have witnessed this incident are asked to contact the Leduc Integrated Traffic Unit at (780) 980 – 7267.
