On Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 06:48 AM, members of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU) were dispatched to a hit and run collision on Highway 566 near Balzac.
ITU officers have determined that a semi-truck was traveling on Highway 566 westbound on the bridge over Highway 2. The semi was pulling a flat-deck trailer that was loaded with a swather.
As the semi traveled westbound over the narrow bridge, part of the swather made contact with a Honda Ridgeline that was traveling eastbound. There were 2 occupants in the Ridgeline, neither of whom sustained injuries, however there was damage to the vehicle.
Unfortunately, the driver of the semi-truck may have been unaware of the collision and did not stop at the scene.
The Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit would like to speak to the driver of the semi, and to any witnesses that have yet to come forward.
Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact the Airdrie ITU at 403-945-7284.
Integrated Traffic Units consist of RCMP Traffic Services members and Sheriff Highway Patrol officers working together in a collaborative effort to deliver effective and efficient traffic safety services to Albertans, with a focus on identified enforcement priorities.
