On Friday, July 11 at 9:30 PM, members of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU) were dispatched to a serious motorcycle collision in the southbound lanes of Highway 2, about 5 km north of the Highway 72 overpass (Crossfield area).
The collision involved a single vehicle – a 2000 Honda CBR sport motorcycle. The driver, a 57-year old man from British Columbia, appears to have lost control of the motorcycle and slammed into the cable-barrier that divides the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway.
The male sustained serious injuries in the collision and was airlifted to hospital.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit at 403-945-7200.
Integrated Traffic Units consist of RCMP Traffic Services members and Sheriff Highway Patrol officers working together in a collaborative effort to deliver effective and efficient traffic safety services to Albertans, with a focus on identified enforcement priorities.
