On June 4, 2015 at approximately 0030 hrs, a *911* call was received of a motor vehicle collision between a pickup truck and a semi tractor / trailer unit on the QEII Highway just south of Bowden. Members of the QEII Hwy ITU – Innisfail, Innisfail RCMP, Olds RCMP, Bowden Fire / Rescue and Guardian EMS responded.
Initial investigation determined that the pickup had been north bound on Highway 2A and entered the south bound lanes of the QEII Highway at exit 353. The driver of the semi unit had to take evasive action to successfully avoid a head-on collision, however the pickup did end up in a sideswipe collision with the trailer of the semi.
Fortunately, no injuries occurred, however alcohol was a factor. As a result, a 34 year old male resident of Olds is facing three Criminal Code charges: Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle; Operation of a motor vehicle over .08 and Dangerous Driving. He was released from custody and will appear in Didsbury Provincial Court mid July.
