The Olds, Didsbury and Sundre suppression team was formed at the beginning of April 2015. For their first project, the team targeted drug trafficking in Mountainview County. During the 10 day project, the suppression team identified that the offenders were trafficking out of bars, residences and businesses in the Olds and Didsbury area. The drugs being sold were ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine and heroine. As a result, 3 search warrants were completed and police seized a substantial amount of drugs, weapons and cash as follows:
-ammunition
-shotgun
-blunt force weapon
-cash
-24 grams cocaine
16.4 grams of heroin
-86 Fentanyl tablets
-10 grams marijuana
-2 grams ketamine
-8 grams of methamphetamine
The combined street value of these drugs is over $23,000.00
Seven people have been arrested and an additional one adult and one youth have been charged with a warrant issued for their arrests. A total of 61 charges have been laid against the following people:
-Travis John Peddie (30 years old)- 15 charges of trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a firearm (which had a tampered serial number) while prohibited and possessing ammunition while prohibited.
-Gordon Nelson Defoe (26 years old) – 5 charges of trafficking. possession for the purpose of trafficking, and failure to comply with conditions.
-Joan Michelle Duval (30 years old) – 8 charges of trafficking. possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession a firearm (which had a tampered serial number) while unauthorized.
-Andrew Shelly Gail Johnson (47 years old) – 15 charges of trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a weapon while prohibited, possession of proceeds of crime and failure to comply with conditions.
-Samantha Ashley Fiege (22 years old) – 3 charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.
-Chase Bradley Gerber (18 years old) – 2 charges, one of trafficking and one of possession of proceeds of crime.
-Tyler Wayne Thomas (20 years old)- 2 charges, one of trafficking and one of possession of proceeds of crime.
-Thomas Arthur Horner (59 years old) – 5 charges of trafficking (warrant for arrest outstanding)
-Jessie Robert Nyuli (18 years old) – 5 charges of trafficking
-Male youth facing one count of trafficking (warrant for arrest outstanding)
The Suppression Team is made up of general duty police officers from Sundre, Didsbury and Olds detachments. The team was developed to increase communication, share intelligence, pool resources and focus on prolific offenders. The goal of the team is crime reduction; targeting individuals who cross the detachment boundaries and are criminally active in all our policing areas.
