Olds, Alberta – On Sunday, July 19th, 2015 at approximately 4:40 pm RCMP – Olds Detachment were dispatched to a collision involving two pickups on Highway 587 about one kilometre West of Highway 2. Innisfail and Didsbury detachments also assisted with area emergency services. Early investigation indicates that the west bound Ford F150 carrying a driver and one passenger crossed into the opposing (East bound) lane of travel. An east bound Ram pick up attempted to avoid a collision as the Ford came back across the highway. The two vehicles collided in the West bound lane of travel with the Ford coming to rest within the that lane and the Ram coming to a rest on it’s roof in the ditch on the North side of Highway 587.
STARS air ambulance attended and transported the drivers of both vehicles to trauma centres. The one other occupant of the Ford and the three other occupants from the Ram Pickup were transported by ground ambulance to area hospitals. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of RCMP collision re-construction unit out of Red Deer. Police are investigating alcohol and speed as factors in this collision. Police are not releasing the names of the parties involved. Further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
