RCMP Olds – Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Highway 2 Southbound near Olds, Alberta


 

On January 2, 2015 at approximately 1:00 pm, emergency services attended a collision between a semi trailer and a pickup truck on highway 2 southbound approximately 2 kilometres south of the highway 2A exit, near Olds, Alberta. Members of the Olds RCMP Detachment, Didsbury RCMP Detachment, RCMP Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit, Olds Fire Department, Bowden Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene. Investigation indicates that a southbound pickup truck collided into the rear of a southbound semi trailer.

The driver and lone occupant of the pickup truck, a 29 year old male from the Leduc region, died at the scene. There were no other injuries sustained in the collision. An RCMP collision reconstructionist was called and attended to assist with the investigation. Road and weather conditions were poor at the time and may have been a factor in the collision. No charges are anticipated in relation to this event. The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

Traffic in the southbound lanes of highway 2 near Olds, Alberta was temporarily diverted while the accident was being investigated but reopened for full traffic flow at approximately 5:00 pm.
