RCMP Okotoks – Two Serious Motorcycle Accidents


RCMP - Crest-insigneShortly after 07:00 a.m. on the 18th of July 2014, a Pickup truck driving North on 112th Street at 292 Ave, was struck from behind by a motorcycle. The 41 year old male driver was thrown about 25 feet from his motorcycle.
He was transported by STARS ambulance to Foothills Hospital with life-threatening head, neck and leg injuries. The 61 year old driver of the pickup truck was not injured.  The investigation is ongoing, however alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors.

At about 12:30 p.m. on this date, a vehicle westbound  on Hwy 7 turned left across the path of an Eastbound motorcycle. The 19 year old driver of the Volkswagen Jetta was not injured. The 50 year old man from Calgary driving the motorcycle,  sustained critical, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Foothills Hospital. Neither speed nor alcohol were involved. There were numerous witness and other drivers who stopped to render assistance at the scene, including an off-duty EMT. Hwy 7 at Southridge Drive was shut down for several hours while Okotoks RCMP and a Collision Re-constructionist from RCMP traffic Services completed their investigation. Charges are pending against the driver of the Jetta.

Police are urging all drivers to remember that summer time means sharing our Roads and Highways with thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts. Everyone needs to get home safely.
