RCMP Okotoks – Theft of vehicles

On Sunday, October 26, 2014, Okotoks RCMP responded to the theft of a motor vehicle (Nissan Titan) which had been left running at the Petro Canada on Southridge Drive in Okotoks. Minutes later, RCMP received information of that vehicle and a second vehicle, a brown pick up truck, operating in a manner dangerous to the public, leaving the scene.
Patrols were made and RCMP located and conducted a traffic stop with the brown pick up behind the Okotoks Courthouse.  Two (2) persons, a male and female attempted to flee the scene on foot. The female driver was immediately apprehended and the male was located a few blocks away.  Investigation revealed this vehicle had been stolen out of Manitoba and the license plate attached had been stolen out of Saskatchewan.  Numerous stolen items were located in the vehicle, including identification and credit cards, taken from throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Mitchell KARWANDY and Vanessa ROBERTS of Red Deer, Alberta, have been charged with over 40 Criminal Code Offences and the investigation is on-going.  KARWANDY and ROBERTS continue to be investigated for various offences spanning 3 provinces and further charges are expected.
KARWANDY and ROBERTS  have been remanded in custody and are expected to appear in Calgary Provincial Court on October 31, 2014.
