RCMP officer sustains injuries after police vehicle rammed by stolen truck


Stettler, AB – On October 12, 2015 at approximately 11:54 PM, Stettler RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the industrial area of Stettler. Members located a black Ford truck in the area of one of the local businesses. The truck was later determined to be stolen. The first member on scene activated their emergency equipment on their police vehicle. The truck proceeded to accelerate past the first fully marked police vehicle. A second police vehicle was also at the location. The driver of the truck accelerated, changed direction and drove directly at the second police vehicle, ramming the front right corner causing extensive damage to the police vehicle. After disabling the police vehicle, the truck continued to accelerate, pushing the police vehicle approximately 3 metres after the initial impact. The RCMP officer in the rammed police vehicle was transported to the local hospital via ambulance for precautionary purposes. The officer has since been released with minor injuries.

The three occupants in the stolen truck were apprehended at the scene and taken into custody without further incident.

Truck passenger, Christopher Victor WEICH, age 28, of Trochu, AB has been charged with possession of stolen property. Truck passenger Brady SHIVAK, age 33, of Vancouver Island B.C. has been charged with  possession of stolen property x 2 and possession of crystal meth. Both of the accused are set to appear in Stettler Provincial Court on November 12, 2015.

The investigation into this incident continues, with charges pending against the 20 year-old male driver of the truck who is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court Wednesday, October 14th.
