High River, Alberta – At approximately 3:50 am The High River RCMP were conducting routine patrols when police spotted a suspicious vehicle traveling North on Macleod Trail with no headlights on. RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop however the vehicle did not stop. Out of concern for public safety police did not pursue and pulled over. Although the vehicle was not being pursued it still left the main road way driving onto the town path system resulting in damage to town property.
At 7:20 a.m. the Police were called to a break, enter, and theft from the Rexall Drug store in High River. The front window to the store had been smashed, and the ATM machine was stolen from inside. The investigation confirmed that the break and enter took place at 3:45 am and the vehicle involved departed the area moments before the truck was seen on Macleod Trail.
Police were called mid-morning by an alert citizen, who found an abandoned, damaged vehicle in a field west of High River. This vehicle had been reported stolen from Okotoks at approximately 12:30 a.m. on April 14. Items found in the vehicle tie it to the break and enter to the Rexall.
Items from the Rexall, as well as the vehicle have been seized for the purpose of forensic examination.
