RCMP Cochrane – Over-Due Hikers – UPDATE

At 0925 hrs, all hikers were located safe and with no injuries.

Background:

Cochrane, Alberta –  On January 31st, 2016 Cochrane RCMP members responded to a call of overdue hikers on the Prairie Mountain Trail.  The call was received at 11:30 PM when four hikers had not returned from their day hike on the Prairie Mountain Trail which is situated across from Elbow Falls along Highway 66.

Four travelers with various hiking experience left their residence in Calgary at 11 AM and were due to return around 4 PM.  The hikers had only planned a day trip.  When they did not return, police were contacted by family members who in turn attended the parking area of this popular hiking trail.  The hiker’s vehicle was found in the parking area for Prairie Mountain Trail undisturbed.

The names and ages of the overdue hikers are not being released at this time.

RCMP are still on scene and using all available resources to locate the individuals and the search is ongoing.
