RCMP Cochrane Arrest Armed Man


RCMP-Crest-insigne1-e1393524295759.jpgCochrane, Alberta – At approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, Cochrane RCMP began to receive reports of an armed man walking around the West Cochrane area. The man was located a short time later by officers by a skate park. When approached, the man ignored police instructions and proceeded to leave the area, heading for the Bow River. He was subsequently relocated and was found barricaded in his residence.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team South, deployed to assist the Cochrane detachment with this situation at approximately 6:15 pm.

Through negotiation, the male surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident at approximately 9:45 pm.

“This is the best possible outcome for everyone involved,” said Staff Sergeant Roger Waidson, Detachment Commander, Cochrane RCMP. ” I am sure the situation was very frightening for the citizens of Cochrane. I want to thank them for their assistance and cooperation throughout the incident.”

No further information will be provided until tomorrow Monday am.
