Cochrane RCMP – Multiple Vehicle Thefts
Cochrane, Alberta – On August 14th and 15th 2016, the Cochrane RCMP received reports of two separate thefts of motor vehicles in their area.
On August 14th 2016, two vehicles were stolen from a residence on Woodland Ridge. A 2011 Dodge Journey was recovered less than a kilometre away but the second vehicle, a white 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Alberta License plate BCV1971, has not been recovered. Someone in the residence did hear a noise at 2 AM on August 14th and noticed a truck in the driveway but could not get a description of the truck.
On August 15th 2016, the Cochrane RCMP received a complaint of a stolen white 2016 Ford F150 from Gleneagles Close. The truck has an Alberta License plate BVK2776 and a unique bumper sticker on it “Don’t Blame Me I Didn’t Vote NDP”. This theft would have taken place sometime between 9:30 PM on August 14th and 7:40 AM on August 15th. There are no suspects or witnesses for this theft.
The Cochrane RCMP do not believe these two incidents are related.
If anyone sees these vehicles occupied, RCMP advises not to approach but to call 911 right away. If anyone sees these vehicles unoccupied, please call the complaint line at 403-932-2211 and do not approach or disturb it.

Brooks RCMP – Shooting under investigation, single male injured
Cochrane, Alberta – On August 14th 2016, a male from Cochrane attended the Cochrane RCMP Detachment to report that his handgun was stolen from his vehicle.
The vehicle was located at the 53 year old males’ residence on Bow Ridge Road and is believed to have been left unlocked. The male had left his .357 revolver handgun unloaded in the centre console with 25 rounds of ammunition. When the owner saw the vehicle had been entered and the handgun was stolen, he attended the RCMP Detachment immediately to report it.
The owner has been charged with unsafe storage of a firearm but the handgun still remains at large. The investigation is still ongoing but there are not suspects or witnesses.
The Cochrane RCMP would like to remind the public to ensure nothing of value or temptation is left in vehicles and to lock the doors. Firearms should never be left unattended and be secured at all times.

Cochrane RCMP – Impaired Operation Charges
Cochrane, Alberta – On August 14th 2016, at approximately 12:45 PM the Cochrane RCMP were called to assist the Rocky View Peace Officers with a traffic stop they had made at the corner of Nagway Court and Nagway Drive. The Peace Officer had stopped a vehicle for speeding and found that the driver may have been impaired.
Upon arrival, the RCMP member also formed the suspicion that the driver was impaired and began an impaired investigation. The investigator arrested the driver and obtained breath samples that confirmed that the driver was operating the motor vehicle while impaired. It was also found that the vehicle was not registered or insured and the driver was a suspended driver.
The 32 year old Calgary male was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle as well as various traffic violations.
Cochrane RCMP would like to encourage citizens call the complaint line at 403-932-2211 when they see erratic driving behaviours or call 911 when they believe that someone is driving a vehicle when they are impaired by alcohol or drugs.
