RCMP Coaldale – Two Vehicle Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision
At 12:18 p.m. members of the Coaldale RCMP Detachments responded to a two vehicle collision on Range Road 211 at the intersection with Township Road 84. A four door green Buick sedan travelling northbound on Range Road 211 failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a westbound red Jeep. The green Buick was struck on the passengers side with impact to both the front and rear passenger doors. A four year old boy seated in the passengers rear seat sustained serious injuries from this collision. Numerous motorists stopped and assisted with CPR for the four year old until Lethbridge Fire/EMS arrived. The young boy was declared deceased at the scene. The female driver and other child in green Buick were taken to the Lethbridge Hospital for treatment and as a precaution for non serious injuries. The female driver and lone occupant of the red Jeep was also taken to the Lethbridge Hospital as a precaution for non serious injuries.
A RCMP Traffic Collision Reconstructionist attended the scene to assist local RCMP members. This collision remains under investigation.
The intersection is expected to be closed for a few hours.
RCMP Airdrie – Serious Injury Motor Vehicle Collision
Airdrie, Alberta – On July 27th, 2016, at 10:34 AM, Airdrie RCMP were advised of a two vehicle collision on Highway 564 at the intersection of 84 street (1 km east of Stoney Trail). RCMP, Calgary Fire, Rocky View Fire, and EMS all attended the location.
Investigations show that a Toyota Corolla was traveling westtbound on Highway 564 when it was struck from behind from a Dodge Ram pickup. A 17 year old female passenger of the Corolla, from the Strathmore area, was transported to a Calgary area hospital for serious life threatening injuries. A 13 year old female passenger from the Strathmore area, was transported to a Calgary area hospital in serious but stable condition. The other 3 occupants of the Corolla were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The 3 occupants of the Dodge Ram, were treated and released on scene.
Highway 564 was detoured for a short time and traffic was disrupted for several hours while the collision reconstruction unit from Calgary attended.
