RCMP Claresholm: Investigate Fraud Relating to Fort McMurray Fire Evacuees

On May 12th, 2016 Claresholm RCMP received a complaint from Family and Community Support Services with regards to a couple that might be pretending to be evacuees from the Fort McMurray wildfires.  Claresholm RCMP started a fraud investigation and were able to determine that the couple had never actually lived in Fort McMurray and had no ties to Alberta.  The couple simply took advantage of the people in the community of Claresholm who thought they were helping people who lost their home in the wildfires.  Citizens of Claresholm provided a place to stay, clothes, meals and a purchase of work boots.
The investigation continues as Claresholm RCMP wants to speak with all of the possible victims looking at any further charges
On May 15th, 2016 Darryl Lincoln Joseph RONDEAU ( 1970-06-06 ) of Victoria, B.C. was charged with 1 count of fraud under $5,000.00.  He made his first appearance on May 16.  He was held in custody as he had other matters before the courts.   Rondeau will be making his second court appearance on June 1, 2016
No charges have been laid on any other person as yet.
