RCMP Celebrates 80th Anniversary of Long Service Medal

On November 10, Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, was presented with a special bound copy of “Maintiens le droit” a book tracing the history of the RCMP Long Service Medal and Clasps. Written by Dr. Christopher McCreery, Member of the Royal Victorian Order, the book commemorates the 80th anniversary of the medal.

Princess Anne visited the Musical Ride Centre and participated in a Long Service Award medal presentation for seven RCMP members. Nova Scotian author Dr. Christopher McCreery was also in attendance.

In the introduction to the book, Dr. McCreery says, “For 80 years members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police – and its antecedents, the North West Mounted Police and Royal North West Mounted Police – have been recognized by the Crown for their long service and good conduct”.

Books can be purchased at the Mountie Shop and RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina.
