RCMP Canmore Investigates Fraud – Additional Charges Laid

Canmore RCMP have laid new charges against former Canmore accountant 49 year old James Russell NEILSON with respect to his involvement with Abaca Solutions.  The charges, fraud over $5000, uttering a forged document and laundering the proceeds of crime are alleged to have occurred between January 2009 and October 2014.  During this time, it is believed that NEILSON defrauded nearly 40 people of approximately $5.5 million.  NEILSON was released following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in Canmore Provincial Court on February 17, 2016.

NEILSON was previously charged with similar offences related to another $1 million fraud after a six month long investigation. In May of 2015 NEILSON was charged with 3 counts of fraud over $5000, 1 count of theft over $5000 and 1 count of laundering the proceeds of crime.  The charges were laid after several individuals and businesses reported fraudulent activities related to investments they had made with the company run by NEILSON.  Those charges are still making their way through the courts.
