On June 13, 2016, Canmore RCMP executed a judicially authorized search warrant following a lengthy drug trafficking investigation. This investigation was a follow up to a related investigation last summer in which a Canmore resident was convicted of drug trafficking. During the execution of the search warrant, police seized 887 grams of marihuana, 28 grams of psilocybin (commonly referred to as magic mushrooms), a small amount of “shatter” and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime. “Shatter” is an extremely concentrated form of THC, the active ingredient found in marihuana.
Canmore residents 53 year old David Jeffery Ratchford and 61 year old Christa Nora Ratchford have both been charged with:
Possession of marihuana for the purpose of trafficking, s. 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Possession of psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking, s. 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Possession of cannabis resin, s. 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Possession of the proceeds of crime under $5000, s. 354(1)(b) Criminal Code
They have both been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Canmore Provincial Court on July 13, 2016.
The Drug trade fuels Organized Crime which in turn breeds other criminal activity throughout the communities we live in. Those that traffic in illicit drugs destroy lives, homes, and communities. The RCMP remains fully committed in building “safe communities” and enforcing laws to their fullest extent, in order to achieve this goal.
