RCMP Canmore Investigates Death at Ha Ling

Wingsuit Wearing Male Deceased

On Sunday, June 7, 2015 at approximately 9:30 am, Canmore RCMP were called to assist Kananaskis Emergency Services.

A 40 year old man from the Edmonton region, had crashed into the trees below Ha Ling Peak along the Highline Trail, east of the Canmore Nordic Center. He, along with 2 other companions, had jumped from the Peak wearing wingsuits, an activity commonly called Wingsuit Flying. It appears that the parachute he was carrying was not deployed before he encountered the trees below. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

RCMP are continuing the investigation into the death, in conjunction with the Calgary Chief Medical Examiner’s Office. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor.

The name of the male is not being released by Police at this time.
